Great advice from the master of art-entertainment, Mr. Bob Ross. For me, this quote speaks of something very near and dear to me, the artists’ mindset.
We’ve touched on this before. Art is play, accidents are opportunities to learn and experiment. Some of the most successful parts of my own pieces were unintended, the paint moved in a certain way and showed me a different way of representing something.
Always being open to learning and growing, the ability to remove “mistake” and “failure” from our vocabulary and understand it’s all part of the learning process. That’s the key to a healthy artist’s mindset. Edison didn’t fail 1000 times at making a lightbulb, he learned 1000 ways not to make a lightbulb. It’s true, friends, “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”

Ya hemos hablado de esto antes. El arte es un juego, los accidentes son oportunidades para aprender y experimentar. Algunas de las partes más exitosas de mis propias obras no fueron intencionadas, la pintura se movió de una determinada manera y me mostró una forma diferente de representar algo.
Estar siempre abierto a aprender y crecer, la capacidad de eliminar el “error” y el “fracaso” de nuestro vocabulario y entender que todo forma parte del proceso de aprendizaje. Esa es la clave de una mentalidad artística sana. Edison no fracasó 1000 veces en la fabricación de una bombilla, sino que aprendió 1000 maneras de no hacer una bombilla. Es cierto, amigos, “no cometemos errores, sólo pequeños accidentes felices”.
