Description

A painting by the artist Rob Grams. The original picture was painted with oil on canvas (65 x 96 cm.), in 2017.
A simple gesture can be misconstrued in a million ways. I find body language fascinating and wanted to paint an ambiguous gesture so, the voyeur of the piece, could fill in the gap of its meaning.
For some the hand is reaching out to help, for others, it’s asking for something. People have told me they perceive religious connotations from the piece. It’s amazing how many interpretations I’ve heard for something so simple, what does the piece mean for me? Well, that would be like a magician revealing the trick and so destroying the magic. What’s more important is the meaning you see.
